Game Design Elements

Let's talk about the Design Elements we look for in Games

Game design elements are crucial whether you are designing a game or playing them. And the reason why every gamer's or designer's opinion about games is different is closely related to How They Prioritize the game design elements in games.

Let's say you like a particular game franchise, and then you suggest it to a friend and he doesn't like it, but he likes some other franchise which you don't like. Why is that?

The reason is that his order of prioritizing the game elements are different than yours, or he doesn't like a particular genre at all.

We generally think about the following elements

  • Gameplay
  • Story
  • Art Style
  • Characters
  • etc.
I am not saying that if two people are having the same order of prioritizing these elements, they won't have different opinions about it. They WILL actually, because these elements can be further divided into different themes. For example, a Game can have a cruel storyline or a mild one, the person will like it based on his own taste.

My Preference

  1. Story
  2. Gameplay
  3. Characters
  4. Direction
  5. Art Style
  6. Soundtrack
  7. World Building
  8. Graphics
  9. Replay Value
  10. Controls and Accessibility
This is how I prefer to design and play games. My most favorite game franchise is Final Fantasy, followed by many popular franchises like Fire Emblem, Pokรฉmon, Dragon Quest, The Legend of Zelda, Devil May Cry, Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, Resident Evil and Super Mario.

Let me know about your own preferences in game design elements so I can design and develop games based on different people's opinion too. And also mention your favorite game franchises in the comments below. ๐Ÿ˜„
